The Interrelationship Between Neuroscience, Psychology and Mindfulness.

March 17 2015

I recently attended a wonderful workshop on the neuroscience of the social brain facilitated by Dr. Pieter Rossouw from Queensland University. As a practitioner it is exciting to witness scientific revelations that offer greater understanding and therefore clinical application for psychological interventions- e.g. C.B.T. psychodynamic therapy, neuropsychotherapy and mindfulness.

Our sense of safety followed by an enriched environment is primary in enabling “approach”; i.e. connection neurologically, physiologically and socially. Psychological interventions offer direction for healthier approaches by fostering a sense of security and right therapeutic relationship.

Mindfulness offers similar safety and right relationship through our physical, emotional and mental alignment. This is enabled even further within group meditation sessions; built on respect, equality, non-judgement and kindness. What is clear is that we grow and thrive in the company of others.
